The Farmer’s Kitchen

I don’t know why Wednesdays are traditional for newspaper food sections, but enjoy it while we still have newspaper food sections. The LA Times spends the whole section on farmers markets, and has a very interesting article that’s mainly about farmers markets at Kaiser. But it also mentions a project by Sustainable Economic Enterprises of Los Angeles (SEE-LA) called The Farmer’s Kitchen, which is a facility at the Hollywood market where farmers can prepare foods for sale from their produce. There will also be a cafe, and the commercial kitchen space will be used for educational programs as well.

Man, it sounds wonderful. What would it take to bring something like that here? The location that springs to mind is Tom McEnery’s San Pedro Square Urban Market.
