Apricot trees on busy streets

Not a huge haul this morning, although our two single apricot trees gave us a respectable 140 lbs or so.

This tree is on Curtner right near the freeway (where they support Campbell annexation, BTW.) I got there a good 15 minutes early, and wondered if the homeowner knew I was from Village Harvest, or thought I was just hanging out in her driveway taking pictures of her tree.

The next house was on even-busier Camden, and I parked way down the block, in front of a house with a fruiting mulberry! (Did I take a picture? No.) I did leave a VH flyer, since there were several other fruit trees in the front yard.

We picked oranges in Willow Glen, and down that street was a busy beehive in a walnut tree.

And then we picked a very few Gravenstein apples (where last year this tree gave us 400 lbs.) And had snacks. I brought my pickles, and they were very popular.

And yesterday, I put together my nocino.

The walnuts were still very soft, easily cut with a butcher knife. And despite the dire warnings about the juice’s staining, it was clear and inoffensive. I didn’t have enough walnuts for the whole bottle of vodka I bought, so I also made some apricot liqueur. Now we wait for 6 weeks.
