A pear, a pple

That’s one of my favorite B. Kliban comics (that and “Bugs kept away”) and I always think about it when we’re picking pears. We returned to yet another regular Santa Cruz mountain orchard and picked almost a ton of pears, in addition to the other ton that another team had picked here on Saturday.

(Can I say, by the way, that I am lovin’ the “publish to flickr” option in the new iPhoto, to which I have belatedly upgraded?)

I filled my cars with pears again, to the delight of Martha’s Kitchen. (“We hardly ever get pears!”)

But the large blue crate is destined for the Veggielution dinner, “Bounty of Heart’s Delight, a Veggielution Fundraising Dinner,” to give it its official name. Remember, 17 October!

We hit a second, smaller orchard up there, too, new to us. Talk about having everything! In addition to pears, there were (very vocal, very noisy) goats

and, of all things, a telescope dome!

You never know what you’ll run across at Village Harvest!
