My fig tree is a sad tree, certainly due to my decision 12 years ago to build a treehouse around it. Not in it; the treehouse platform is supported by sturdy wooden posts on concrete footings. But the luxuriant fig trees we picked today reminded me of how my tree used to be, and I was sad.<\/p>\n<p>I was also going to post about changes in the Santa Clara County response to the Light Brown Apple Moth, but all I have is a multiply-forwarded email, when I&#8217;d rather link to something more official. The important part says that food banks distributing within a regulated county (like Santa Clara) can accept household donation of fruits and vegetables (although not cut flowers nor decorative greens) as long as the food banks themselves are under a compliance agreement with SC County Ag. This last requirement is also evidently under review.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s great news! Gardeners with bumper crops of zucchini and tomatoes can now legally bring them in to feed the hungry.
