Linky

A rather miscellaneous assortment of things that caught my eye this morning.

First, from Wooly Pigs, the fattest (non-wooly) pig I’ve ever seen.

How does she walk around with her belly scraping the ground like that? Is she pregnant?

Second, a nice article in the Chron about “urban homesteading.” Kind of a miscellaneous assortment itself, with links to preserving, butchering, beekeeping, greywater and other classes. All of them up in SF or the East Bay, natch.

Two recipes look yummy: mushrooms in lettuce cups, from the NY Times “Temporary Vegetarian” feature, would be something to do with the head of butter lettuce I anticipate receiving tomorrow. And I’ve been roasting and freezing the green chilis for the past few weeks, so Deborah Madison’s green chili and potato stew, from Serious Eats, sounds perfect. Assuming I actually get potatoes and onions.

Tomorrow evening, I’m going to Eulipia to talk to the chef about our menu for the Veggielution fundraising dinner, and ask what to do with my 20 lbs of tomatillos. I’m pretty darned excited!

ETA: And here, on Civil Eats is a very inspiring piece about “Yes We Can,” the preserving co-op project of LiveCulture.
